2 top JMB cadres held

Gafargaon police arrested an Ehsar member of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from a mosque at Gafargaon upazila Sunday night while a top aide to Siddiqul Islam Bangla Bhai was arrested in Bagmara, Rajshahi yesterday.Police said they raided the mosque on a tip-off and arrested Monirul Islam Monir, 30, of Char Purapathia village under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj. The militant leader was produced before a court today with a three-day remand prayer. Magistrate Shefali Begum granted for two days' remand. In a separate operation yesterday, police arrested a top JMB militant, who is also a close associate of Bangla Bhai, from a betel leaf field at Bagmara upazila. The arrestee, Belal Hejati, son of Hossain Ali of Goalkandi, Bagmara was an armed militant of Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB). He took part in every operation led by Bangla Bhai in Rajshahi and Naogaon in 2004. Belal is also wanted in the Golam Rabbani Mukul murder case, several extortion and torture accusations. Mukul was killed on April 11, 2004 after Bangla Bhai and his cohorts kidnapped him for being an outlaw. He led JMJB after Bangla Bhai went into hiding in May 2004 following the 'Rajshahi March' by several thousand of his followers.
