Prime Minister Khaleda Zia yesterday charged her political opponents with plotting to grab power through the backdoor by disrupting the upcoming elections."They want to come to power through the backdoor, but people will not allow them to see success in their conspiracy," she told a public meeting at Panchbibi. Khaleda, who completes her 5-year term in October, apprehended that a deep-rooted conspiracy is on against the country, democracy and economic development. Asking people to remain alert against any evil design or conspiracy, she said conspirators will never succeed. Khaleda said since BNP and its allies are united and have better prospect of winning the elections, the opposition is trying to split the alliance and disrupt the polls. "People are united. The alliance will not break," the BNP chairperson said. She was also critical of the opposition's hartal and blockade programmes, alleging that the opposition wants to obstruct people's welfare and development process. The prime minister accused the opposition of damaging the garment industry, mills and factories, pharmaceutical industry through their destructive agitation. "When Bangladesh is making progress, and even foreigners are appreciating economic performance, they are working against the development and progress." On her election commitment to wipe out terrorism, she said her government raised Rab to curb terrorism and establish peace in society. Presided over by Zahirul Alam Tarafdar, president of Panchbibi BNP, the meeting was also addressed by Abdul Alim MP, Whip Rezaul Bari Dina, Begum Sarwari Rahman MP, Abu Yusuf Mohammad Khalilur Rahman MP, Mazhar Ali Pradhan, Fazlur Rahman, Faisal Alim and Tozammel Huq.
