Mob lynches 1 during robbery attempt

A mob lynched one and injured another in the city's Motijheel area yesterday for allegedly trying to commit robbery at house at Arambagh in the capital.The dead was identified as Kalu Mia, 35, and the injured is Md Polash, 32. A gang of three-- Kalu, Polash and Siddique-- posing as police stormed into an apartment at a five-storied building around 1:00 am. As they carried sharp weapons, inmates of the house became terrified and cried for help. At this, neighbours rushed to the spot. The gang then stabbed an inmate, Afsana, to create panic and flee. They first ran to the roof of the building. Kalu jumped to another building and got injured. Locals then beat him to death. Police rescued Polash from mob beating while Siddique managed to flee. They recovered a sharp knife from the gang's possession. Polash said Kalu led the gang in committing the crime. He is a hawker in Farmgate area, and also an informer of Tejgaon police. Afsana was admitted to a local clinic and owner of the building filed a case with Motijheel Police station.
