Walcott breaks Rooney record
Afp, Manchester
Arsenal forward Theo Walcott became the youngest ever England international when he came on as a second half substitute in England's World Cup warm-up against Hungary at Old Trafford on Tuesday.Walcott, a shock inclusion in England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson's World Cup squad having never played a Premiership match, beat Wayne Rooney's three-year-old record when he replaced another former youngest international Michael Owen, who broke the record as an 18-year-old in 1998, in the 66th minute. Walcott was just 17 years and 75 days as he took to the field, beating Rooney's record by 36 days when he made his debut against Australia in 2003. Like Rooney before him, Walcott was promoted to the full national squad without having featured for the under-21s.
