CARE trains more female drivers
CARE Bangladesh, a humanitarian organisation, has trained four more female drivers and two auto mechanics, raising their number to 14 in one year, as part of its efforts to promote gender equity in its Transport Services Department (TSD), says a press release.The graduation ceremony of the second batch apprentices and reception ceremony for 10 new apprentices of the third batch were held at the CARE TSD office at Karwan Bazar in the city on Tuesday. Deputy Country Director of CARE Bangladesh Hasan Mazumder gave away certificates to the new graduates. General Manager of TSD Md Manzurul Haque was also present. Hasan Mazumder said women make up half of the country's total population. Without their economic emancipation, country's overall development is not possible, he added. Manzurul Islam said TSD is training female drivers and auto mechanics in a way so that they can work outside the organisation efficiently.
