Nine killed in road crashes


Nine people died and 14 others were injured in road accidents in Bogra and Comilla yesterday and on Sunday night.

In Comilla, three people died on the spot and 11 others were injured when a microbus collided- head on with a BRTC bus on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Nobogram area under Chouddagram upazila at 12:30pm yesterday, according to our correspondent.

Two of the dead were identified as Joya Pal, 19, and Avi, 9. The identity of the other could not be known.

The injured are undergoing treatment at different hospitals and clinics in Comilla town.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Comilla Medical Collage and Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Our Bogra correspondent reported that a banana-laden Bogra-bound truck and a shallow-engine driven vehicle loaded with ice collided head-on at Baburpukur on the Bogra-Natore highway at about 11:00pm on Sunday.

The truck skidded into the roadside ditch, leaving five of its passengers as well as the driver of the shallow-engine driven vehicle killed.

The dead were identified as truck passengers Abdul Hannan, 45, Rezaul Karim, 25, Rafiqul Islam, 45, Abdus Samad, 50, Zillur Rahman, 18 of Rainagar Union under Shibganj upazila in Bogra district, and driver of the improvised vehicle, Mostaque, 30.

Seriously injured Talab, Bablu and Saddam were admitted to Bogra Mohammad Ali Hospital.
