25 hurt in AL-BNP clash in Golachipa
144 clamped


At least 25 people including a former lawmaker were injured in a clash between ruling BNP and Awami League (AL) at Char Chandrail village in Golachipa upazila in the district yesterday.

The upazila administration imposed Section 144 at Galachipa town for an indefinite period from 4 pm yesterday.

At least 10 shops, 25 houses of rivals and the local BNP office were damaged during the clashes.

Police and locals said, the clashes took place over submission of nomination paper for election to the post of governing body member of Char Chandrail High School in the area. Local leaders of BNP and Awami League are trying to capture the posts, sources said.

Additional police have been deployed.
