Left parties' possible link with outlaws being probed

Investigation has been started to find whether any left political party has link with any underground party in the south-western region of the country.

According to sources at Khulna Police Superintendent's office, Special Branch police in all the 10 districts in the region have started making lists of top leaders of left political parties and underground organsiations.

This followed a directive from the home ministry to prepare a 'correct report' on activities and backgrounds of top leaders of left political parties in the region.

Police Superintendents in all the districts have received letters from the Special Branch of police headquarters in Dhaka, asking them to send reports in this regard by April 30.

Besides, Special Branch police in each district is also making a separate list of 'political godfathers' of four underground organisationsPurba Banglar Communist Party (PBC-Janajuddho), PBCP (M-L), New Biplobi Communist Party and Chinnomul Communist Party, intelligence sources said.

The sources said they have information that fugitive extremists are maintaining links with their godfathers for financial backing to get their detained leaders released.

Founder of PBCP (janajoddha) Abdur Rashid Malitha alias dada tapan and leader of New Biplobi Communist Party Shailen Biswas held a secret meeting early this months in a shrimp enclosure at Shovna in Dumuria upazila in Khulna. A dozen cadres of the parties attended the meeting.

The sources said PBCP (Janajoddha) wants an alliance of four major outlawed parties to take revenge of killing of outlaws in crossfire.
