Attack on jatra, NGO office in Delduar to be re-investigated
Police seek court order after Sunny confesses to JMB involvement

Delduar police have submitted a prayer for re-investigation into the bomb attack on a jatra, burglary at a local NGO office and murder of a medicine trader there following the recent confessions by Ataur Rahman Sunny, 'operations commander' of banned Islamist militant organisation Jama'tul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

Police had earlier submitted final reports in the three cases.

Sunny, younger brother of JMB chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman, during quizzing by a joint interrogation cell (JIC) in Dhaka confessed to JMB's involvement in the three incidents.

After his confessions regarding Delduar incidents, the JIC called a sub-inspector from the police station and handed over to him a written copy of the statement.

"Now that we have got Sunny's confession regarding JMB's involvement in Delduar incidents, we will re-investigate those", OC of Delduar police station Nazrul Islam told this correspondent on Saturday. The copy of Sunny's confession reached the police station a few days back.

The OC said they have prayed before a First Class Magistrate court in Tangail for re-investigation of the cases.

"We will start re-investigation as spoon as the court gives order", he said.

"We are preparing papers to take Sunny on remand for quizzing", the OC said.

During interr ogation by JIC in Dhaka, Sunny confessed to his involvement in the murder of medicine trader Monirul Islam Sagar in Delduar Sadar upazila on April 28, 2004; bomb attack on a jatra in Tookchandpur village on January 8 last year and robbery at Ananda NGO office at Bhurbhuria village. He also admitted his involvement in several other bomb blasts in Delduar upazila.

According to Sunny's confession, Sagar was slaughtered near Delduar police station at around 8 pm and the killers escaped by blasting two bombs.

Sunny also admitted that he along with JMB cadre Shakil Ahmed alias Mollah Omar hurled two bomb on the jatra to stop it. Molla Omar was killed by Rab in Comilla recently.

Sunny also admitted that the dacoity at the NGO office was committed at his directive to stop activities of all NGOs in the country.

Besides, he disclosed important information about several crime incidents including robbery, which took place in Delduar before August 17 last year.
