The Dhaka University (DU) authorities yesterday temporarily expelled three Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists for beating up Dainik Ajker Kagoj staff reporter Minar Baidya at Jagannath Hall on April 21.The expelled JCD men are Sanjoy Kumar Biswas, 2nd year student of Political Science, Partho Dev Mondol, 2nd year student of English Literature and Bhaskor Bhason Swarma, 1st year (old) student of Physics, a DU press release said. The decision came after the five-member probe committee formed on Saturday to investigate the attack on Minar, also a fourth year student of Mass Communication and Journalism, submitted its interim report to the Vice Chancellor yesterday. Prof Dr Nim Chandra Bhoumik, provost of Jagannath Hall and convener of the committee, told reporters that they submitted the interim report yesterday as was asked. The committee found some accused guilty after reviewing the statements of Minar and some witnesses of the attack, he added. The committee will submit its full report within two weeks, sources in the committee said. Minar was seriously wounded when some 20 JCD activists at Jagannath Hall beat him up and pushed him off second floor on the night of April 21 following an altercation between Minar and some JCD men in the hall's TV room. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and later shifted to Trauma Centre with fractures in both legs. Doctors at Trauma Centre said it would take at least three months for Minar to walk again.
