Makaay extends Bayern stay

Bayern Munich's Dutch international striker Roy Makaay confirmed Monday he has extended his contract with the German side by a year until 2008.

"Everything happened really quickly and I'm very happy with how things worked out," the 31-year-old Makaay said.

Makaay arrived in Munich in July 2003 from Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna.

After a strong start to this season when he scored six goals in the first three games Makaay had a drop in form failing to find the net between August and November.

But he gave Netherlands national coach Marco van Basten a reminder of his striking talents ahead of the upcoming World Cup by scoring twice in Bayern Munich's 2-2 draw with lowly Mainz 05 on Sunday.

Makaay is fighting for a place in the Dutch World Cup team having scored 61 goals since his arrival in the Bundesliga.
