Human chain in Shyamnagar demands, terms the incumbent lawmaker as corrupt

BNP leaders and activists in Shyamnagar yesterday formed a human chain demanding nomination of BNP leader from Shyamnagar constituency in place of the incumbent Jamaat lawmaker as a coalition candidate.They accused the Jamaat lawmaker, Gazi Nazrul Islam of doing 'corrupt practices' and 'nepotism' in the last four years and voiced support for former general secretary of the district BNP, Syed Iftekhar Ali. A meeting was also held in front of Shyamnagar BNP office. Upazila BNP convener Master Abdul Wahed presided it. Speakers threatened to launch a tougher agitation saying they would resist and boycott the activities of Jamaat in Shyamnagar upazila if their demand is not met. They blamed the Jamaat lawmaker for tarnishing the image of Four-party Alliance and splitting it through his misdeeds during his tenure. They also said that the Jamaat lawmaker ignored the BNP leaders and activists during his term. Speakers warned that the BNP leaders and activists would not accept the candidature of the 'corrupt' Jamaat member of parliament (MP) as he is facing an 'image crisis'. Among others, upazila BNP member secretary DM Abdus Samad, Ishwaripur Union Parishad (UP) chairman Amjadul Islam, Bhurulia UP chairman Shajahan Siraj, local BNP leaders Ashek Elahi Munna, Solaiman Kabir, Prof Abu Sayeed, Abdus Sabur, and Azizur Rahman, Upazila Chhatra Dal president Masudul Alam Doha addressed.
