Road Accident
Death of woman sparks violent protest

Local people went berserk after a woman was killed in a road accident at Malibagh level crossing in the city yesterday.

The dead was identified as Khadiza Begum, 50. She died on the spot when a Sadarghat-bound bus hit her at around 5:30pm, police said.

The agitated people set fire to the bus. They also damaged a vehicle of fire service when it rushed to the spot to put out the fire.

They also blocked the Malibagh and adjacent roads for about one and a half hours, disrupting traffic.

The mob also beat up fireman Bablu and driver Mizan of the fire service vehicle.
