Supplementary charge sheet accuses Bangla Bhai

A supplementary charge sheet of a case filed with Mollahat Police Station under Bagerhat district on August 15, 2002 was submitted to a court at Bagerhat Thursday evening, accusing eight Islamist militants, including Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai, operation commander of the banned Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB).As per order of the home ministry, police, after further investigation into the case, submitted the charge-sheet to a magistrate's court. Seven other accused are Laltu Molla, Taru Shaikh, Firoz Sarder, Hakmat Molla, Matin Molla, Shariful Islam and Waliur Rahman Liton. Liton hails from Pabla ward under Daulatpur Police Station of Khulna city, while six others are from Gaola village under Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat. All the accused are still at large. Bangla Bhai and Laltu Molla were left out of the main charge-sheet submitted by Sub-Inspector (SI) Humayun Kabir of Bagerhat DB as an investigation officer (IO) of the case on January 1, 2003. Their names have been included in the supplementary charge-sheet after further investigation. The accused were involved in a bomb attack on the house of Awami League (AL) leader Tarapada Poddar of Gaola village under Mollahat upazila on the night of August 15, 2002. The AL leader was seriously injured in the attack. Bangla Bhai was arrested in connection with the attack, but released on bail from Bagerhat jail one month after the arrest.
