Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday busted a third militant factory producing arms and bombs at Ashkona in the capital several hours after unearthing two other factories in Uttara and Tongi Thursday night.The Rab recovered huge amount of bomb-making chemicals, four packets of LDD powder, five integrated circuit boards, 100 capacitors, 60 iron balls, 70 switches, watches, wires, resisters, safety fuses, maps, books and audio cassettes on jihad. The elite anti-crime agency raided a house at Ashkona in Uttara following leads from two Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) militants--Wahidul Islam and Shafiqul Islam alias Russell--arrested Thursday night, Rab sources said. On Thursday at about 8:00pm, the Rab members held Wahid, who at first introduced himself as Habib, from Courtbari of Moinartek and made the first recovery in the same area. The recovery included 10 firearms, 300 bullets, over 15kg explosives, grenade and bullet making materials and Islami books. The same night, they raided a four-storey building at Tongi and arrested Russell and Mostafa Kamal, owner of the house. Following Russell's information the Rab busted the second den on the first floor of the building at around 11:30pm and recovered ammonium nitrate, detonators, iron rods, iron sheets, batteries, gunpowder, 27 wristwatches, electric circuits, electronic meters and devices. On yesterday's operation, Commanding Officer (CO) of Rab-1 Moniruzzaman told the press that they broke into the house at East Ashkona in Uttara yesterday afternoon following information revealed by Russell. Russell's brother-in-law Sagor rented the ground floor of the house on January 1 at Tk 3,000 per month and has been staying with his wife and two children since then, said Rab sources. The CO said sensing the raid Sagor locked the house and fled.
