Move to bring gender equality in Care's transport dept

In a move to bring gender equality in Care's transport department and support vulnerable segment, Care Bangladesh has been imparting a six-month intensive training to women on mechanics and driving under Transport Service Department (TSD).

The graduation ceremony for the first batch of female apprentices and orientation of second batch apprentices (mechanics and drivers) was held at the TSD office in the city yesterday.

Care's Regional Director for Asia Muhammad Musa, Country Director Steve Wallace, Deputy Country Director Hasan M. Mazumdar and TSD General Manager Md Manzurul Haque were present.

Five graduates in the first batch were handed over certificates at the ceremony. Two of them will be employed as TSD pool driver from December while three auto-mechanics will be placed at its project (SHOUHARDO) at Tangail and Kishoreganj.

At present, Care Bangladesh has 144 drivers, including 34 in its headquarters. To bring equality in ratio, females from ultra-poor family with diverse background will be identified and imparted training at TSD, Dhaka so that they can be merged into Care's transport sector.
