Assault on Janakantha reporter condemned

Leaders of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalist (DUJ) in a joint statement yesterday condemned State Minister for Housing and Public Works Alamgir Kabir as he has physically assaulted Tapan Biswas, staff correspondent of daily Janakantha while he was doing his professional duty.In the statement, they said, "The journalists have been facing abusive languages by various persons of the government for a long time but this time we are surprised at the state minister's action. The minister has to apologise to the journalist community for his misdeed." Meanwhile, a protest rally will be held in front of the National Press Club in the city today at 11:00am.
