Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have both vowed to go for a big win when the two teams meet in the first leg of the AFC Youth Football Championship (Under-17) qualifier in Dhaka today. The match will kick off at 5pm at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. "We don't want to bother about the result of the second-leg match and my boys will try to score as many goals as possible," said Sri Lanka U-17s coach Chandrasiri yesterday. The former Lankan international, adjudged the best goalkeeper of the 1978 Asian Youth Football Championship during his first trip to Dhaka, played for Abahani and Dhanmondi in the Dhaka League in the mid-80s and said that his knowledge about local conditions will help the side. "We have a very balanced side with a strong striking zone, which will be able to put the local team under pressure," added Chan-drasiri, who has 7-8 players with the experience of playing in Dhaka during the U-14 football festival. Bangladesh coach Mahbubur Rahman Roxy was also upbeat about his first assignment and said the team would be concentrating on taking a home advantage. "We need to win big to make the Sri Lankan trip easier. Skipper Sabuj and Jahir will lead our attack and I have confidence in the striking pair. But my biggest asset is the midfield, where Rana, Mobarak and Emon will be the key," Roxy said. "Our main problem is that we have played only one practice match during the two and a half month preparation time. They fought well against our Under-20 team and if they can hold their nerve, we will win," the former national midfielder added. The Sri Lankans, in the interim, have trained hard and played around half a dozen warm-up matches in the build-up to the qualifiers, including one against the SAFF Championship-bound national team. The second leg match will be held in Colombo on November 25. Meanwhile the Bangladesh Under-20 team left Dhaka yesterday enroute to Tehran, to play their AFC Youth Championship qualifying match against Iran. The first-leg will be held on November 23 and the return-leg will be in Dhaka on November 27.
