Galib's plea for exemption from bomb charges rejected

A court yesterday rejected the appeal of Asadullah Al Galib, chief of Ahle Hadith Andolan, Bangladesh (Ahab), for exempting him from the charge of blasting bombs at Takier Bazar.

Galib was produced before the Court of Sessions Judge amid tight security in connection with the blasts on December 20 last year.

Defence lawyer Sirajul Islam Babu pleaded for dropping the charge against Galib, but Judge AMM Sayeed rejected his payer and fixed next date of hearing on January 18.

Three powerful bombs went off at an open stage drama in Palashbari upazila, injuring 15 people.

Palashbari police filed a case against Galib and 21 others and later on April 27 pressed charges against six people.

A large number of Galib's followers appeared to see their leader in the court compound. Police picked up three people, but released them later.
