Derailment
Dhaka-Ctg rail link snapped for 8hrs

Dhaka's rail communications with several key towns and cities, including Chittagong and Sylhet, were suspended for about eight hours as a train derailed near Amirganj station in Narsingdi yesterday morning.

While coming from Akhaura five compartments of the Titas commuter train derailed around 7:00am.

Eastern Railway Control-room sources said 20 to 25 passengers received minor injuries in the accident. Rail communications on the Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Sylhet, Dhaka-Kishoreganj and Dhaka-Noakhali routes snapped following the accident.

The communications resumed at 3:00pm after a relief train removed the derailed compartments from the tracks.

Railway sources said Noakhali-bound inter-city Upakul, Kishoreganj-bound Egarosindhur, Sylhet-bound Parabat, Chittagong-bound Mahanagar, Dhaka-bound Surma Mail from Sylhet, Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur from Kishoreganj and Dhaka-bound Subarna Express from Chittagong were stranded at different stations for hours.
