Tk 11 lakh, gold ornaments looted from expat's house in Sylhet

Armed robbers looted Tk 11 lakh and gold ornaments worth Tk two lakh and other valuables from the house of an expatriate at Palerchak village in Biswanath upazila in the early hours of Thursday.

The robbers also beat up British pension holder Wahab Ali, 70, and his wife Suretun Bibi during the robbery. Suretun Bibi, who became unconscious, is yet to come around, hospital sources said.

About 10 to 12 robbers entered the house at about 3:00am by cutting grille of the veranda. They beat up the old couple and confined them to a room at gunpoint.

They then looted the money, gold ornaments and other valuables and decamped with the booty.

The couple have been living in the house for a long time while their children are in the UK.

A case has been lodged with the Biswanath Police Station.
