Japan wants China to allow its rice

The Japanese government has begun procedures to get Beijing to allow in rice from Japan, which China bans on the grounds it may carry disease or insects harmful to domestic agriculture, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said Sunday.

The business newspaper said Japan was urging China to solve questions about quarantine as soon as possible, but no further details were given and Japanese Agriculture Ministry officials were unavailable for comment.
