Four killed in Rab, police 'crossfire'

Four alleged criminals associated with BNP and New Biplobi Communist party (NBCP) were killed in "crossfire" with Rab and police across the country in the last three days.Our Narayanganj correspondent reports: Ahad, 30, an associate of the former district Jubo Dal leader Jakir Khan, was killed in "crossfire" with Rab in Narayanganj on the Eid day. Members of Rab-10 caught Ahad red handed from a market of the DIT commercial area of the town while he was engaged in extortion on last Monday afternoon. Following his confession, they went along with Ahad to the city's Barafkal area for arms recovery. As his fellow criminals started firing, Rab retaliated and Ahad was killed during the shootout, Rab sources said, adding that Tk 15 thousand extorted money was recovered from Ahad. A pistol and 16 bullets were recovered from the area. There were ten cases of murder, rape, extortion, explosives and arms against Ahad, police said. BNP cadre Ibu, leader of the notorious Ibu group of Fatulla, was killed in 'crossfire' with police yesterday. Police recovered a gun, five bullets and a revolver from the area. Ibu was accused in 17 cases including murder, police said. Rab and police filed different cases in the two "crossfire" incidents with Narayanganj and Fatulla police stations. Our Sylhet correspondent reports: Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) cadre Shebul was killed in "crossfire" with Rab in Sylhet on Saturday. Rab nabbed Shebul from the city's Zindabazar area on Thursday night and seized a pistol and two bullets from him. Pradeep Kumar Biswas alias Prajapati Biswas, 30, second in command of outlawed NBCP, was killed in an "encounter" with Batiaghata police of Khulna early Thursday, police said, adding that Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Abu Taher and Constable Fariduddin were also injured during the incident. Police recovered two firearms, two sharp weapons and five cartridges.
