British High Commissioner tells workshop

A five-day workshop for South Asian Journalists on 'Safe Migration' began at the conference room of International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in the city on Sunday. Participants from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan are taking part in the workshop which aims at increasing awareness about illegal migration and building contacts among the journalists covering this area in all the participant countries. Inaugurating the workshop, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Anwar Choudhury said people need to understand the boundaries under which migration works. "We must stop the misery brought about by unscrupulous agents and traffickers," he added. Anwar Choudhury said the conference will discuss how journalists can get the right information out to people. The workshop will comprise lectures by experts working in the field, interactive sessions and a BBC training course designed to develop reporting skills and encourage debate on the issue of 'Safe Migration.' The British High Commission in Dhaka has organised the workshop with the support of International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and Refugee and Migratory Movements Unit (RMMRU).
