Khulna tense as BNP factions plan separate rallies today

Tension has been running high in the city as two rival factions of BNP are going to hold separate rallies at separate venues today.One faction loyal to Khulna city mayor will hold its rally at Shahid Hadis Park at 4:00pm while the other faction led by city BNP President M Nurul Islam MP will gather at Maharaj Square, about 200 yards from the Hadis Park, at the same time. Both the factions have organised the rallies to protest August 17 serial bomb blasts across the country. But it appears to be a showdown between the two factions. DC Akbar Ali of KMP said the police will be deployed to avoid any untoward incident. If necessary, section 144 will be imposed to maintain law and order, he added.
