Bombs hurled at Rab patrol in Chuadanga

Eight members of the elite crime busting Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) narrowly escaped unhurt when criminals hurled bombs on an on-duty patrol team near the Judge Court in Chuadanga town on Thursday night. When the team was patrolling the Judge Court area at about 11:15pm, criminals hurled two powerful bombs at the Rab vehicle from a darkened roadside, Rab-6 in Chuadanga said. The bombs blasted with big bangs behind the Rab transport. As the panicked passers-by started running all around, the law enforcers ordered them to stand still on the road. At least 10 people were injured when the law enforcers charged baton on the crowding people. The Rab, police and joint forces cordoned off the area and conducted a massive search but failed to arrest any of the criminals. The Rab collected splinters from the spot. The bombs were locally made, but powerful, Rab sources said. Special security measures have been taken in the ten southwestern districts to prevent any untoward incident. From a meeting in Chuadanga town on July 30 on the occasion of their "founder" Charu Majumdar's 33rd death anniversary, an outlawed party threatened to take revenge on law enforcers for killing their party men, sources said. Outlaws in the region killed at least 42 members of different law enforcement agencies and injured 100 others in last four years. About 250 outlaws were killed in "crossfire" with police, Rab and Cobra in ten southwestern districts since June last year, sources said. It is assumed that about 10,000 cadres of 11 outlawed parties are active in the southwestern region. Several large-scale anti-crime drives launched in the region at different times failed to crush the organised outlaws.
