96 tank wagons for railway inaugurated


Any decision on corporatising Bangladesh Railway (BR) would be taken keeping in view the country's as well as people's interests.

Communication Minister Nazmul Huda said this yesterday while he was addressing the inaugural function of 96 tank wagons and four break vans for BR at Chittagong Railway Station.

Procured from China at a cost of Tk 10.22 crore, the wagons would be used to transport oil and petroleum products across the country.

Referring to newspaper reports on corporatising the state-owned railway, he said government would not take any decision that would go against the interest of the country, people and railway employees.

Huda said the government has taken a decision to build an express highway from Dhaka to Chittagong and introduce fast moving electric train to ensure smooth and efficient communication between the two major cities.

Chittagong City Mayor ABM Mohiuddion Chowdhury, Communication Secretary M Shafiqul Islam, DG of Bangladesh Railway AFM Mostafizur Rahman and BNP leader Dostagir Chowdhury also spoke.
