Rating chess prizes given

Grand Master Ziaur Rahman earned Taka 18,000 as champion in the University of Greenwich FIDE Chess Tournament yesterday. Runner-up International Master Abdullah Al Rakib and third placed IM Enamul Hossaib Rajib got Tk 12,000 each. The prize-money and the trophies were handed over Thursday at a function, in which Secretary in-charge of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Syed Shujauddin Ahmed attended as the chief guest. In all 26 players took part in the senior section and 139 in the junior section of the tournament. Zia had bagged the title on Wednesday with a round to go with 8.5 points. But the tournament was more important to Reffat Bin Sattar, the International Master who eyed the desired rating points to become the country's third GM. He eventually finished fifth and collected only Tk 5,000 for his performance.
