UNB, Dhaka
A condolence book was opened at the residence of the British High Commissioner in the city yesterday in memory of the victims of the London bomb blasts. In a statement in this regard, the British High Commissioner in Bangladesh, Anwar Choudhury, thanked Bangladeshi people, the government and the opposition as well as all the political parties for strongly condemning these attacks and passing on many messages of condolences and sympathy. "It is at times like this when friends come to stand beside you. It is indicative of the closeness of our relationship and our people. It will be remembered," he said. The British High Commissioner strongly condemned the evil bombings in London on July 7. "We utterly condemned the evil acts that tookz away so many innocent lives in London last Thursday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and friends of those killed in this inhuman attack." He observed that the people of the UK "are a proud multicultural country, in which two million Muslims and around 5 million people from all around the world live, including the half a million Bangladeshis". It is a country where it does not matter whether one is Black or White, Muslim, Christian, Jew or Hindu, Anwar Choudhury said. "We live together as equal and as Brits. If they think that this sort of act will cower or divide the British people they don't know the British people." The book of condolence at the High Commissioner's home will remain open from 9:00am to 4:30pm daily until Thursday.
