Queen's Baton Relay due on Sept 17

The Queen's Baton Relay for the 18th Commonwealth Games in Melbourne next year will arrive in Dhaka on September 17 as part of its trip to 71 nations.

After travelling round the globe, the traditional baton relay will end at the venue of the opening ceremony to mark the inauguration of the Games.

The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) will organise a walkathon with the baton to celebrate its arrival on September 18 apart from holding a painting competition for kids on the next day in the city, informed Ishtiaque Ahmed Curren, chairman of the Welcoming Committee and BOA deputy secretary general, yesterday.

A five-member delegation will bring the baton to Dhaka from India. The party will leave on September 20.

The BOA, which got Australian dollars 5,000 to organise the progra-mme, is looking forward to a massive participation on the occasion.
