Pangolin freed at botanical garden

The pangolin captured on the bank of the Turag river in Mirpur by a local boy Monday night was freed yesterday at the National Botanical Garden.

Officials of the Forest Department received the pangolin, locally known as Bon Rui, from Mirpur police Tuesday night and freed it in the open space in the garden yesterday morning.

Mirpur police earlier rescued the pangolin from Sagar, who found the highly endangered mammal, a scaly anteater, on the Kakka Road near the Turag river, and arrested him.

The police yesterday filed a case against Sagar under the Wild Life Protection Act 1974 and produced him before a Dhaka court.
