Boat rally held on Meghna to stop Jatka netting

A boat rally was held on the Meghna on Monday to create awareness against netting of Jatka (Hilsha fry). High government officials and leaders of professional groups, socio-cultural bodies, NGOs and fishermen's associations on board launches, trawlers, fishing boats and speedboats took part in the colourful rally. Barisal City Corporation (BCC) Mayor Majibur Rahman Sarwar MP inaugurated it at Barisal port on the Kirtonkhola river. It terminated at Hizla Bandar on the Meghna, covering about 35 kilometre waterway. It was organised by the Fisheries Directorate.
