Hailstorm lashes capital

Hailstorm along with gusty wind for the second successive day damaged many trees and roadside billboards in the city late yesterday afternoon.

Shattered pieces of billboards and tree branches obstructed and slowed down traffic movement in many city areas.

The meteorological office said wind speed of the storm in the city was 48 km/h at around 4:00pm.

Heavy shower measuring up to 45 millimetres overflowed sewerage lines in many areas, like Monday evening's downpour when the wind speed was up to 96 km/h.

A storm also swept over Patuakhali district yesterday evening.
