5 killed in city road accidents


Five people, including two women, were killed in three road accidents in the city in eight hours since Saturday night.

Two brothers, owner of a fast food shop at Bashundhara City, and one of their employees were killed and another staff was critically injured in a road accident in the city's Farmgate area on Saturday night.

The accident occurred when a bus coming from the opposite direction hit their rickshaw van at 11.00pm.

Lutfar Rahman Patwary, 30, Saruj Rahman Patwary, 27, sons of Jabbar Patwary, and two of their employees Hannan and Tajul and Tahul were returning to their Tejkunipara residence by the vehicle.

The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared Lutfar dead on arrival.

Saruj and Hannan succumbed to their injuries in the hospital while the critically injured rickshaw-van driver Rubel was undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, a truck hit an unidentified woman, aged around 40, in front of the Shyampur Ujala Match Factory at 11:30pm while she was crossing the road. She succumbed to her injuries at the DMCH.

In a separate incident, a pick-up van ran over Sakhina Khatun, 22, an employee of a garments factory, at 7:30am at Azampur in Uttara. Doctors declared her dead at the DMCH at 9:00am.
