Rumi Smriti TT
Biman men's team champs

Bangladesh Biman comfortably clinched the men's team crown in the Rumi Smriti Open Table Tennis Tournament yesterday but their women's and boys' teams failed to land titles.

Mahbub, Hamlet and Gautam starred in Biman's 3-0 defeat of Wari Club in the team final at the NSC Wooddenfloor Gymnasium.

Mahbub beat Monir 11-7, 11-9, 11-5, Hamlet routed Ripon 11-7, 11-6, 11-5 and Gautam defeated Tuhin 11-3, 11-8 and 11-8.

However, the national airliner suffered a setback in the women's team event going down 3-2 to Abahani on Monday.

Abahani took a 2-0 lead in the final with Saleha and Tumpa beating Jayati and Rumi respectively but Rumi and Ratna won the doubles match against Saleha and Tumpa to inspire a Biman fightback.

Rumi then levelled the scores when she edged past Saleha in the fourth set. But Tumpa came from two sets down to beat Biman's Jayati 6-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-7, 17-15 in the decider to see Abahani through.

Narail blanked Dhaka TT Club to take the boys' team event while Nafiz emerged unseeded men's singles champion with a 3-0 win over Fahim.

Today is the final day of the meet.
