They have been appointed for three years from the date of joining. Top five posts of the telecom regulator including that of the chairman and four commissioners, one of whom act as the vice-chairman, fell vacant on February 1. Officials and employees of BTRC could not draw their salaries for the month of February in absence of its chairman and commissioners. Day to day activities including renewal of licences and allocation of frequencies also remained suspended in absence of the five top officials. Keeping such posts vacant for over a month is contrary to the Telecom Act that insists on appointment against any vacant post within a month.
