Former lawmaker of Rajshahi-3 constituency Sarder Amzad Hossain on March 1 received a letter from the recently banned Islamist militant outfit Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB) threatening him with death. The letter dated February 24 termed Amzad Hossain an anti-Muslim Murtaad (one deviated from Islam) and a foreign agent, and said so his death will be enforced according to Muslim Shariah (law), if Allah permits. The JMJB in the letter also said it has decided to punish Fazle Hossain Badsha of Workers Party of Bangladesh and three others of a Murtad political party with death. "You used abusive language against Bangla Bhai in a speech, which is against Islam. You also received a huge financial aid from the Indian high commission's Rajshahi office after that speech," the letter signed by M Muttalib Hossain reads. "Due to your immoderate speeches against us, many of our brothers have been arrested. So our organisation will not spare any of you," the letter threatened the former Jatiya Party MP. The letter written in red ink also said, "No government law-enforcing agency -- Rab, Chitah or Cobra -- will be able to protect you from the JMJB." "We declare that we are capable of facing any government agency and will win the fight against you at any corner of the country," it added.
