NBCP cadre killed in 'crossfire'

A cadre of outlawed New Biplobi Communist Party (NBCP) was killed in a 'shootout' between his accomplices and police at village Dhuliarchar in Pangsha upazila under Rajbari district early yesterday.

Three police personnel including a sub-inspector (SI) were also injured in the incident.

The killed NBCP cadre Aiyub Ali alias tiger Ali, 38, was also second-in-command of a local gang called 'Buro Bahini' and accused in 10 cases including 4 of murder.

A team of Pangsha police raided the Dhuliarchar field of the village when some NBCP cadres were holding a secret meeting at about 3:30am, police said, adding that the underground operatives opened fire when the law enforcers asked them to surrender firearms.

Police returned fire that resulted in an hour-long shootout. After the gunfight police found Aiyub dead, while his cohorts fled, police said.

The three injured policemen are SI Aminul, constables Sahin and Akbar.

Police seized 2 revolvers, one local made rifle and 13 round bullets from the spot.
