Habiganj AL leader on 8-day remand

Zahedur Rahman, general secretary of Laskarpur union Awami League (AL), arrested in connection with the January 27 grenade attack at Baidder Bazar, was taken on eight days' remand yesterday.The officer-in-charge (OC) of Habiganj Sadar Police Station produced the AL leader in a local court seeking remand for 10 days, but the court granted eight days only. Shah Alam, ward committee president of Laskarpur union BNP, and another BNP worker, Joynal Abedin Jalal, were taken on five days' remand on Thursday. Meanwhile, police detained a shopkeeper, Saheb Ali, of Mirpur Bazar in Bahubal upazila of the district. Eight people, including district BNP Vice President and President of Shaheed Zia Memorial and Research Parishad AKM Abdul Qayyum, were arrested in connection with the grenade attack that killed five people, including former finance minister and Awami League leader Shah AMS Kibria.
