Sharmina Sharin Polin, 18, a second year student and daughter of retired army officer Abul Basher Patuari of Shaharasthi, Chandpur, did not attend breakfast at the college canteen yesterday.

After having breakfast, Polin's roommates and classmates started looking for her and found the door of a bathroom locked from inside. They knocked at the door repeatedly, but did not get any response. Later, a maid of the hostel entered the bathroom scaling the wall and found Polin hanging from the pipe of the shower.

The college authorities rushed Polin to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Mymensingh where the doctors declared her dead.

Police recovered the body from the CMH and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.

In spite of repeated attempts, the principal of the college could not be contacted. However no case was lodged till the filing of this report at 8:20pm.
