Tiger kills fisherman

A fisherman was killed by a tiger in the Sundarbans yesterday. The victim was identified as Wazed Sheikh, 35, of village Dhumghat in Shyamnagar upazila. Other fishermen later recovered his body. Wazed along with some others of the locality was fishing in Baikari canal in the Sundarbans. A tiger suddenly swooped on him and dragged him deep into the forest. His companions then started a search for him. The tiger also attacked them leaving another fisherman, Ahmed Ali, injured. Meanwhile, the private secretary to a legislator was killed in an accident yesterday at Mautala on Kaliganj-Shyamnagar road. The victim, Abul Kalam Azad, was private secretary to Kazi Alauddin, lawmaker from Kaliganj-Debhata constituency. Police said a truck knocked him down killing him on the spot.
