"I would otherwise have been an airhostess"-- Dipa
Dipa Khandaker, a talented TV actress, has also worked on a number of commercials. Mohuya, Meghe Dhaka Manush, Shwapnabhukh, Ami and Nil Phoring Ghash Phoring are her major works. She spoke to the Cultural Correspondent recently. Here we share a glimpse of the conversation with the popular Dipa. How did you land up in the media world? I appeared on TV for the first time, through modeling, quite sometime back. It was a commercial of Lipton for Taaza Tea. Which was your first TV drama? In how many such plays have you acted so far? My first drama was "Kaktarua", written and directed by Kazi Shahedul Islam. I have done about 300 TV plays so far. In which drama did you get the best audience response? I am still remembered for my roles in the TV serial "Kaktarua". Now that you are a popular figure in the media, what has changed? When I first came into the media as an actress a few years ago, I was not very conscious about my professional life. Now I am very choosy about my roles. Philosophy of life The most important element in life is to be kind and affectionate towards everybody. I am a very peace-loving person and have learnt that violence can only destroy. Books you would always read-- Garbhodharini by Shamaresh Majumder has had a lasting impression on me. What do you do in your leisure time? When I am away from shooting or work, I prefer staying at home. I watch movies, listen to a lot of music, especially ghazals of Jagjit Singh. I also like to read the poems of Jibanananda Das and Nirmalandu Goon. What is your dream role? I read Rabindranath and I am very eager to act in any plays based on his works. What do you fear most? I am afraid of darkness. Besides this, I fear hypocrites. What do you strive to be? I want to be a good and honest person. I have simple dreams: to live in peace and harmony with my family members. I want to be recognised as a remarkable artiste. How will you judge the talent of a media person? Honesty and sincerity of an artiste should be the first priority. Quality and looks are necessary as well. Who is your idol? Mother Teresa is my idol. There was a time when I was keen to follow her path. I really miss those times and wish that I could feel that way once again. What would you have become if not a model or an actress? I love travelling. Maybe, I would otherwise have been an airhostess.
