BSS, Rangpur
Border Security Force (BSF) of India returned the bodies of two Bangladeshis on Thursday night after a company commander level flag meeting with Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) along Shibganj border of Chapainawabganj. But the Indian border guards did not receive the body of an Indian robber, who was beaten to death by the villagers inside Bangladesh territory along the border, BDR and police sources said. The BSF men shot dead the two Bangladeshis on Naogaon and Chapainawabganj frontiers on Wednesday, raising the number of people killed in BSF firing to five in two weeks. The BSF troops of Mohadipur camp entered Sarishahaspur village near Sialmara border under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj at 5:00pm on Wednesday and abducted Anwarul, 30, son of Abdul Karim, from a wheat field. Later, they fired shots at him and admitted him to a hospital where Anwar succumbed to his injuries on Thursday. The BSF troops of Sobdulpur camp also shot dead Kalu Mia, 28, son of Lokman Ali of Biswanathpur village, along the same border on the same day while the victim was working in a field nearby. A battalion commander level flag meeting between the BDR and the BSF will be held at 10:30am today near the zero of Panchagarh border. In the meeting, the BDR side is expected to lodge strong protests against killings of Bangladeshis by the BSF in recent months, frequent firings, illegal intrusion by BSF troops, abduction of Bangladeshis, lootings and push-in. Meanwhile, the BSF is yet to come up with a positive response although they sought one week's time in a sector commander level flag meeting with Bangladesh Rifles on January 6 to resolve the problem in construction of a revetment along the Atrai river bank in Dinajpur.
