PBCP leaders' widows form suicide squad

Security in Khulna city and district has been tightened following information that widows of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) leaders have formed a suicide squad to avenge killings of their husbands in reported encounters with police during last one year.The suicide squad prepared a hit list that includes two senior Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) police officers and two senior officers of Khulna district police. Khulna Police Super Habibur Rahman said they received information from reliable sources that members of the squad have planned to create anarchy by killing the senior police officers and conducting subversive activities. He identified three widows, -- Keya, Nita and Laizu -- as leaders of this squad of the wives of some eighty outlaws of PBCP who were killed in encounters with police and Rab in the south-western regions during last one year. "We are not at all afraid of suicide squad, if there is any. No threat will be able to prevent us from ruthlessly containing terrorist activities," said Police Commissioner Javed Patwary at a press conference in KMP headquarters on Thursday. "We are committed to ensure security of lives and property of the people," he said. The police commissioner said security measures have been beefed up, keeping policemen on high alert. Check posts have been set up at vulnerable points in the city and KMP intelligence agencies have been strengthened. Special security measures have been taken in the offices of range deputy inspector general (DIG), police commissioner and deputy commissioners of KMP, police super (SP) and police stations of the city and district following information about formation of the suicide squad. Besides women's entrance into the KMP headquarters and DIG and police super offices has been restricted.
