Police arrested yesterday 21 illegal immigrants near the border between Greece and Turkey in north-eastern region of Thrace after finding them hidden inside two trucks heading for Athens. A police source said the illegal immigrants, the majority of whom came from Bangladesh and Pakistan, had crossed the border at the Evros river with the help of a Pakistani who was also arrested. Police seized the two trucks and arrested one of the two drivers. The illegal immigrants were to have each paid 2,500 dollars (1,890 Euros) to their transporters when they arrived in Athens. The border between Greece and Turkey is used regularly by illegal immigrants coming from Asia to Western Europe.
