PSTU Controller's removal demanded

About 700 students of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) on Saturday staged demonstrations on the campus demanding removal of the Controller of Examinations within two days.

A controversial notice of the Controller of Examinations issued on December 13 has annoyed them.

They paraded the campus streets in a procession and held a meeting.

While addressing the meeting, student leaders alleged that the Controller of Examinations Md Nizamuddin had issued the notice to stipend holders without any decision of the Academic Council or of the Vice Chancellor (VC).

According to the notice, if any student is unable to pass in one subject, 50 per cent of his stipend money will be cut off, if he fails twice, 75 per cent of his stipend money will be cut off, if he fails thrice, his entire stipend money will be cut off and he will not be entitled to get stipend any more.

Among others, student leaders like Jahangir, Noman, Sagar, Mosaref, Babu, Asad and Noman addressed the meeting.

As the VC was staying in Dhaka, none agreed to make any comment on the issue.
