Barisal JP leader held for link with outlaws
Top outlaw gets bail

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Md Enayet Hossain Khan, convener of Wazirpur upazila Jatio Party (Monju) unit, from Shikarpur Bandar under Uzirpur upazila on Monday.

RAB sources said Enayet will be interrogated about his alleged links with a local outlawed party (Kamrul group) and several incidents of extortion, dacoity and other crimes.

Wazirpur thana OC Abdur Rob said Enayet, arrested under Section 54 of CRPC, was produced before court yesterday. The court sent him to jail.

On other hand, Habul Sarder, 35, a prominent leader of another outlawed party (Zia group) and chief of a local terror gang called Habul Bahini, was granted bail by a court in Barisal on Sunday.

Habul was arrested after he was bullet-hit during a gunfight with RAB in Guthia-Narayanpur area in Wazirpur upazila on December 15.

Habul was under treatment at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Doctors advised him to go to Dhaka for better treatment and amputation of his bullet-injured leg, sources said.

Three RAB personnel were also injured in the shootout. The law enforcers recovered one light gun, one shot gun and bullets.

Habul was allegedly involved in the murders of Workers Party central leader Babu Lal Shil and popular Awami League leader Aboni Baroi, twice elected chairman of Jalla Union Parishad in Wazirpur upazila.

After the murders, Habul, chased by rival outlaw leader Kana Badal, had left the area.

After Kana Badal's arrest, Habul had returned to his area and resumed criminal activities, police said.
