BSF yet to return 6 kidnapped men
Bangladeshis in Chhittlai enclave in Kurigram not allowed to come to mainland
Our Correspondent, Rangpur
Indian BSF is yet to return six Bangladeshis, allegedly kidnapped from their homes in Chhittlai, a Bangladesh enclave in Kurigram district, on December 15. A boat was also taken away along with the six men BDR said quoting local people. The incident has created tension in Bhurungamari border area as BSF, at a company-level flag meeting on Monday near border pillar No. 993, denied the kidnapping. After the alleged kidnapping, BSF had laid siege to the enclave, stopping supply of essentials including food. They however withdrew the sieve on Monday. Over 256 Bangladeshis are now passing days in hardship in the enclave as BSF has restricted their movement to the mainland, sources said. The enclave people are mainly day labourers who come to the mainland for work and to buy essentials, they said. BSF's denial has raised new complexities, a BDR official at Rangpur Sector Commander office told this correspondent yesterday. A proposal for a Sector Commander level meeting was given yesterday to resolve the matter, reply was available, he said. Sources said the six Bangladeshis have been sent to jail India.
