Opposition parties take oath, hold rallies today

Leaders of the main opposition Awami League (AL), left-leaning 11-party alliance, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and National Awami Party (NAP) will separately take oaths, and hold rallies and processions across the country with a vow to resist communalism and war criminals of 1971.

The programmes are part of the opposition parties' simultaneous movement on a nine-point charter of demands aiming at overthrowing the BNP-Jamaat-led coalition government.

AL central leaders will take oaths at the Central Shahid Minar in Dhaka at 3:00pm and bring out a procession.

Leaders of the 11-party alliance will hold a rally at Muktangon in the city at 4:00pm, lead a procession to the Shikha Chirantan at Suhrawardi Udyan and take oaths there.

JSD leaders will hold a rally in front of the National Museum at 4:00pm and take oaths at the Central Shaheed Minar.
