Robbers shot 1, stab 2 in city


Robbers shot a school teacher and stabbed two others in two separate incidents in the capital yesterday.

Bullet-hit Enamul Kabir Ripon, 28, a teacher of Agradoot Bidya Niketan in Demra, is struggling for life at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Six armed robbers entered Ripon's ground floor house at Shahid Titumir Road in Dhania at around 12:30pm.

As Ripon grabbed one of the criminals when they tried to tie him, others shot him in the chest and stomach.

Hearing gunshots, locals rushed to the house and beat up Sumon, while the others managed to escape.

Police admitted Ripon to the DMCH.

Following the statement of Ripon, police arrested one Rakib from the locality for his alleged involvement in the robbery.

Meanwhile, an armed gang of eight on Monday evening stole 70 tola of gold and Tk 20,000 in cash from the first floor of the same building, locals said.

In Mirpur, a gang of seven entered the ground floor of 159/3/A West Shewrapara at dawn.

As the robbers were tying the family members, Mamun, 35, and his cousin Morshed, 17, tried to grab one.

The criminals stabbed them all over the body and looted valuables worth about Tk 14 lakh in cash and kind.

Critically injured Mamun and Morshed were admitted to Al Helal Hospital in Mirpur.
